According to the research study and experience, few leaders have a strong sense of their own particular mission, and even fewer can distil their purpose into a precise statement or have a clear plan for turning purpose into action. Applicant behaviors and activities that expedite the transition to a sustainable future, follow best practices and market principles, and inspire others to embrace sustainability are being recognised by the Global Council for the Promotion of International Trade (GCPIT).
The application focuses on the following aspects of leadership and impact:
- Objective and Ambition – The applicants’ intention and ambition are to build and advance global goals utilising sustainable business practices and a new business model.
- Green Business Use – Green business use by applicants indicates leadership, stimulates demand and boosts the market effect.
- Communication – Applicants’ communications related to global goals help raise awareness, provide social proof, inspire others, and support market principles and best practices.
- Influence – Applicants’ concrete actions influence sustainable development goals and use within various communities. These communities could be where an applicant operates; stakeholder groups such as competitors, suppliers, employees, customers, and load-serving entities; communities disproportionately burdened by environmental harms and risks, such as minority, low-income, and tribal communities; and others.
- Transparency – Applicants are willing to collaborate, share information, report data, and advance best practices and market principles.
- Innovation, Sustainability, Partnership and Impact Improvements – Applicants’ innovative actions help create a more sustainable and improved business to help accelerate the transition to a sustainable future. This includes actions around the awareness, joint projects/ programs, deployment of innovative solutions, the operations, supporting resilient infrastructure, and supporting market principles and best practices.
Selection Process
Global Council for the Promotion of International Trade (GCPIT) evaluates applicants against their peers and considers the applicant’s relative size, industry, and access to sustainability.
A GCPIT panel reviews and evaluates all applications submitted by the deadline to ensure that they are in good standing with the twelve Global Alliances. The award winners will be announced and notified in January 2022 and the Grand Virtual Award Ceremony will be from March 7th to 11th.
Global Sustainable Development Mission is on a mission to discover stories about SDG success demonstrating the commitment, creativity and partnership capacity of all stakeholders at different levels – from national governments to community actors, and from corporations that are working relentlessly to contribute their expertise and support to private sector organizations who are committed to social responsibility and sustainable partnerships – targeting one or more of the SDGs across all regions of the world.
For the purpose of the “A Thousand Great Leaders Award 2022”, the Global Council for the Promotion of International Trade describes the “Great Leader” as someone who catalyzes innovation, partnership, sustainability and impact leadership to address most complex challenges.
Innovation leadership is the ability to inspire productive action in yourself and others during times of creation, invention, uncertainty, ambiguity, and risk. It is a necessary competency for organizations that hope to develop truly innovative products and services.
Partnership leaders establish empowering relationships with their followers based on trust, respect, and autonomy. Partnership behaviors create positive employee experiences. Across a wide range of survey items, measuring everything from strategic clarity to performance enablement and innovation, employees felt most positive when they were working for a leader who displayed partnership behaviors.
Sustainability leadership is a process of influence that delivers direction, alignment and commitment, and aims to address social, environmental and economic issues to create a better world.
Impact leadership is a blend of entrepreneurial skills combined with strategy and leadership, management, and innovation to create social, environmental, and economic value that advances equity and creates positive change in communities and worldwide.
