Dr Abhay Sinha
Presently heading Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) as Director General. Has over 22 years of experience in various organizations under Ministry of Commerce and Industry and CII. The core areas have been international trade, International trade regulations, Policy and strategy, market research and international trade information services.
Prior to joining SEPC in March 2020, worked as Senior Director in Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil), an organization set up by Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt of India. In a career spanning 12 years in Pharmexcil, took numerous initiatives like Brand India Pharma Campaign, Central Portal for Authentication and Validation of Exports of drugs from India(i-Veda), International Outreach for market development and creating a Brand India Pharma Exhibition-IPHEX.
Had been part of Joint Working Groups and Joint Trade Commission formed for promotion of exports between countries. Represented Pharmexcil in all working groups of Department of Commerce and Department of Pharmaceuticals on Pharma exports.
Handled markets like North America, EU, LAC, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, CIS and ASEAN. Prior to joining Pharmexcil, headed Western U.P. Zone of CII based at Noida during the period 2005-2008, besides taking Charge as State Head-UP in the year 2007. Also Headed the Manufacturing Competitiveness Sub-committee of CII-Northern Region.
Initiated a number of activities related to industry-institute partnership, emerging technologies and its commercialization, Innovation grid, IT security and CSR.
Had been associated with various projects of Export Promotion Councils, UNCTAD-setting up of Trade Point in Kathmandu, Coffee Board-Branding and International Market Development, APEDA-Market Study and Coir Board -setting up of Coir Trade
Information Centre while working with National Centre for Trade Information-a joint venture of ITPO and NIC under Ministry of Commerce, Government of India-the first organization where the professional career started.
Academic qualifications include PhD in Strategy for Pharma Exports, MBA with specialization in Marketing, Masters in International Trade from Symbiosis. Have also done a one-year certificate course on Pharma Regulatory Affairs. Obtained specialized training on international trade related sources of information and databases by UNCTAD and also received training in Market Information System by CBI, Netherlands.
