Leonie Vaas

Ms. Leonie Vaas is currently working as the Head of Sustainability and Innovations at Hayleys Fabric PLC. She has 12 years of expertise in the textile industry, including 10 years in both R&D and production in garment dyeing and washing.

She is the United Nations SDG pioneer 2021 for Responsible Production. One out of ten in the world. This unprecedented achievement by Leonie is not just a remarkable milestone in her own career, but it also marks the first occasion in which a Sri Lankan representative has been selected as a SDG pioneer.

She is reading her PhD in Sustainable Management from MSU – Malaysia. She is a chemical Engineer by profession obtained from Engineering Council UK and she obtained her MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University UK. She is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certifier and GRI Professional. She is also a lead auditor for the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. She is a certified Sustainable Manager. Apart from that, she is a sustainable product innovator, having just invented” Warna by Mahogany”, a natural fabric dyeing with waste to fashion concept selected for top ten product at ISPO Textrend Germany.

She is a public speaker on sustainability, representing several local and global platforms. She is a visiting lecturer in sustainability for Brandix Corporate Campus – Sri Lanka and the University of Moratuwa – Sri Lanka.
