I am writing to you today as the Global Chairperson of the Global Council for The Promotion of International Trade (GCPIT), a role that underscores the importance of trade policy in our rapidly evolving world. At GCPIT, we have been closely monitoring and analyzing the developments surrounding the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), an initiative that holds immense significance for global trade and sustainability.

#CBAM represents a fundamental shift in how we approach international trade and climate action. It addresses the pressing issue of carbon leakage, where businesses move their operations to evade the costs of carbon pricing. By imposing tariffs based on carbon content, CBAM aims to level the playing field for domestic and international businesses while advancing the global climate agenda.

However, the implementation of CBAM is not without its complexities and challenges. Accurate measurement of carbon content, preventing double counting of emissions, and managing administrative intricacies are among the hurdles that need to be surmounted.
