In 2014, John Gaffigan started a business development consultancy to help emerging green technology firms attain market traction. He remains in this capacity, focused upon his quest to make a material difference in global sustainability. He does so by advocating tangible greentech offerings that have been market proven on their performance along with having strong ROI outcomes.
After graduating from Holy Cross, 1985 – 1997 was spent in telecom hardware sales. He joined his first start-up in 1997 to run sales for a high efficiency interior lighting ballast manufacturer, Flexiwatt. The company struggled to attain the required funding for continued operations, and unfortunately shut down. In 1998, He joined a Canadian security start-up, TimeStep. After two mergers (with Newbridge and then Alcatel), he went to Competitive Innovations in 2001 with a charter to sell internet professional services. His professional services work continued at EDS, Oracle and Intact. In 2012, his first boss going back to 1985 (Rob Howard) recruited him to run PaaS sales at Verio for the US and Canada. He led the NoAm market for two years until Verio’s parent (Japan based NTT) decided that Verio didn’t fit into their strategic focus. In 2014, He stood up his consultancy with a greentech focus.
Gaffigan Consulting, LLC, was created to build a better “to be” from the “as is” state of resource consumption and management. In this capacity, he has advanced market traction for a variety of innovative energy and resource conservation offerings. He specializes in unusual energy conservation measures (ECMs) and focus his efforts on supporting firms with proven technology to expand their markets.
Gaffigan Consulting has been engaged to support specific market launches, to validate or revamp external messaging, and for acting on a client’s behalf as a Senior Advisor or VP of Sales. One of his clients (Instantly Relevant) provides a scalable platform to enhance the prominence of emerging greentech organizations.
The Nonprofit organizations he supports include:
1) Leaders in Energy, Arlington, VA – Director of Member Services and Sponsorship (January 2017 – Present)
2) Boston GreenFest, Boston, Mass – Green Technology Director (June 2017 – Present)
3) He is also active with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), Potential Energy DC, Founders Sunday, GreenTech Talks and others in service to my green technology / sustainability organizations.
Since 2014, he has organically built a portfolio of greentech alliances to build his personal knowledge and bolster professional qualifications within the sustainability industry.
Of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the main ones his consultancy advances are:
- SDG #1 – No Poverty, plus SDG # 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth – this is provided via emerging green technology clients that recycle waste materials into a variety of desirable offerings, creating local jobs and fostering economic growth.
- SDG #6 – Clean Water and Sanitation – this is provided via technologies I’m supporting that can draw water from the most arid atmospheres and ensure water delivery systems are resilient to buildup of struvite.
- SDG #7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, plus SDG #9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG #11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities – this is provided by examples like building DC microgrids that insulate communities from unpredictable grid infrastructure.
- SDG #12 – Responsible Consumption and Production – perhaps the most visibly impactful of the SDGs, this challenge is met by technologies such as can convert waste coal ash into a variety of green fibers for needed goods like insulation, automotive brake pads and be fashioned into carbon fiber parts.
The UN’s SDGs in aggregate presents a roadmap of evolution that must be practically adopted. Through resource conserving products and governmental policies, all nations must actively embrace this shift to assure they have a future of opportunity and promise for next generations.
